Essex Sexual Health Service – Sexual Health Week 2025

Going Chronically Online (September 15–21)

This year’s Sexual Health Week theme is “Chronically Online” a powerful invitation to reflect on how our digital lives shape the way we think about sex, relationships, and wellbeing. From dating apps to social media and AI, our online interactions are changing everything – from how we meet people to how we understand intimacy.

This year’s Sexual Health Week theme delves into how heavily digital culture influences sexual attitudes and behaviours, challenges around deepfakes and AI, and how online misinformation can shape perceptions of sex and contraception.

Why It Matters

Being online is now second nature, and it comes with benefits and pitfalls. Apps can make connections easier, but algorithms may reinforce stereotypes. AI tools may open new opportunities, but how do we know what’s real? This week, we encourage young people to develop digital literacy, especially when it comes to spotting misleading content or understanding how social media influences their ideas about sex and relationships.
